Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) The cathedral of St. Stephen in the heart of Vienna is known locally as “Steffl”. The imposing gothic edifice is one of the landmarks of the Austrian capital.

Riesenrad & Wiener Prater The famous Riesenrad [ferris wheel], also one of Vienna’s most famous landmarks, can be found in the Wiener Prater. The British engineer Walter B. Basset erected the Riesenrad on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Emperor Franz Josef I. Everyone should go on the Riesenrad at least once in their life and enjoy the unique views across the Prater and the city.

Schönbrunn Palace The name of the palace goes back to a quote by Emperor Matthias. In 1619 he is said to have “discovered” an ornate fountain and said: “What a beautiful fountain” [Schönbrunn literally means “beautiful fountain”] This imposing Habsburg palace with its magnificent gardens, Gloriette and Palmenhaus [palm house] is the highlight of any trip to Vienna! Top Tip: Take a walk up to the Gloriette where you can enjoy a café with a view.

Wiener Schnitzel & Sachertorte Once you are in the capital, then be sure not to miss the world famous Wiener Schnitzel and Sachertorte. The best place for the particularly thinly tenderised cutlet with potato and field salad and cranberry jam is Figlmüller (flagship restaurant on Wollzeile), and for the most famous chocolate cake in the world, the best place to go is its birth place in Hotel Café Sacher behind the State Opera House. Even though most Austrians will naturally insist that their grandmas bake the best Sachertorte, the original is not to be spurned.

Burgenland
Burgenland enchants with its vast and wide lake Neusiedler See, its good red wine, and its reputation as a sunshine land. Incidentally, there are also 4 wonderful golf courses in Burgenland which invite you to enjoy a fantastic game of golf.

Lake Neusiedl The largest lake in Austria is also the largest endorheic basin in Central Europe and a complete oasis for water lovers. Its reed belts, shallow depths and mild, but windy climate makes it popular with kite- and windsurfers as well as stand up paddleboarders. The surfing season starts as early as April. Esterházy Palace At this Baroque palace in Eisenstadt you will get a good insight into how the eponymous Count Esterházy once lived. Joseph Haydn first premiered his works here in the Haydnsaal. In the cellar of the magnificent palace, there’s the largest wine museum in Austria.

Bergkirche & Haydnmausoleum The harmonic Baroque interior of the Bergkirche (also called the Haydnkirche) resembles a theatre with its curvature. A special feature is the 18th century organ, which Joseph Haydn once played on. Haydn is simply everywhere you look, not just because of the organ, for the Haydn Mausoleum directly adjoins the Bergkirche.

Red wine and „Uhudler“ wine Friends of red wine are always welcome for a tasting at the vineyards and wine bars of this charming region with their feel of real natural authenticity. You must not miss tasting the legendary, rare Uhudler wine which has always been a part of the culinary tradition and regional identity of Südburgenland. Schneeberg The Schneeberg railway has quite conveniently taken hikers up to Lower Austria’s highest mountain since 1987. The journey with the historic Schneeberg railway even amazed Emperor Franz Joseph I. The historic steam locomotive which travels up to the highest train station in Austria at 1,800 metres is operational to this day and runs every Sunday in July and August. The Salamander has now taken over the regular service, a multiple-unit train which takes only 40 minutes to travel the 9.8km stretch to the Hochschneeberg mountain railway station.

Rosarium Baden The Rosarium in Baden is the perfect place to flourish. Not just for its visitors, but above all for the thousands of roses which can be marvelled at in this park. Around 30,000 rosebushes from over 800 different species bloom across over 75,000 square metres. And the best of all: You can visit the Rosarium free of charge all year long. Top Tip: Once a year the Badener Rosentage [rose festival] takes place, the largest rose exhibition in Austria.
